Why You Are Celebrating Memorial Day!
I realize by the time this is posted that Memorial Day will have come and gone. I wanted to remind myself therefore others as well that I hope I didn’t forget why I celebrate Memorial Day.
As a retail worker as my “regular day job”, I seldom enjoy a three-day weekend that my friends and family greatly anticipate annually. I’m not even mad about it (or butthurt over it) I don’t have long standing traditional camping trips, or other outdoor family gatherings. I never have, and I suspect, never will.
I do recognize that many of my fellow Americans have the opportunity to rock a three-day holiday weekend. I just hope they Don’t Forget Why You Are Celebrating Memorial Day!
Memorial Day shouldn’t be confused with Veteran’s Day – it’s a day to memorialize the dead. Honor them. Speak highly of them.
Hundreds of thousands of soldiers gave the ultimate sacrifice of their lives for our freedom. From the blue skies above England, dusty roads of Afghanistan, to waters of the South China Sea, their deaths afford us the opportunity to live our lives. I won’t be so bold to think I would know the outcome if the United States military didn’t engage in each of these conflicts. However, I do know that it would be different than what it is today. And that? That, my fellow Americans, I can’t live with. I mentally shout in my head: Don’t Forget Why You Are Celebrating Memorial Day!
I’m grateful that I have the freedom and opportunity of success on a daily basis. I grumble, and sometimes growl, at others that don’t take this opportunity to give thanks for the camping trip, boating trip, or golf trips that they had over the weekend.
However, and whatever you did I hope you didn’t forget why you could, or if you did, then I hope you don’t forget why you are celebrating Memorial Day next year.
As always, be good like you should and if you can’t be good … be good at what you do!
