In the early days of medicine, doctors would make “house calls”. A moniker for DJ’s is spin doctor. It’s true! The following is my origin story on how I became a spin doctor that does house calls.
House Call By The Spin Doctor: My Origin Story
When I say I didn’t choose the industry that the industry “chose” me – it’s a true statement. Another DJ, Mari, noticed that I would show up 2x a week at the Issaquah bar called Malarky’s. My girlfriend broke up with me, so I was trying to repair my broken heart. Only way I knew was to sing my little heart out. Little did I know it would lead to me being an Event DJ later on.
One innocuous evening, Mari asked me if I’ve ever considered being a DJ. I thought briefly, “As a matter of fact, I’d love to DJ but someone would have to train me because I don’t know the first thing.”
She smiled, “I can.”
That’s when my journey started in the “industry”, per se. Now as an event DJ, I can make a House Call By The Spin Doctor! I must admit my first few gigs (as I like to call them) were rough to start, but I always finished strong and the clients were happy.
I’m eternally grateful that Mari took a chance on me. Although, I’ve never really received a satisfactory answer as to why she picked me.
Not that I honestly want it because no matter the answer – I’m gonna keep doing it. I thoroughly enjoy entertaining people of all ages and for all reasons, hence why I’m ready to rock a House Call By The Spin Doctor.
So tell me, Spaceship Earth – did you pick your path to the way your generate money or did it chose you? And if you did, do you regret it?
As always, be good like you should, and if you can’t be good, be good at what you do!
