Independence Day 2018 should be interesting for me. My work hours for the day after (July 5th) will be 2 am to 1030 am. To me that equates to trying to sleep during firework displays, etc of the neighborhood. Which are still legal for the city of Lake Stevens … for the time being. And I LOVE the Fourth of July! I love the atmosphere surrounding it.
Independence Day 2018
As a kid, I looked forward to Fourth of July! It meant school was out, it was summer, and carefree days were there to stay. For the little money I was able to earn with odd jobs, such as a paper route, I would bike down to the fireworks stand(s) in “downtown” Mountlake Terrace a couple times of day leading up to the 4th. You’d think I would I figure out self-discipline. Nope! I’d fire off every one until I exhausted my supply.
Come to think of it, I was a borderline fire bug.
I’m glad cooler heads prevailed. And mostly, that I demonstrated safe practices. My playmates would feel comfortable holding smoke bombs, Roman candles, etc citing it was perfectly safe. I frowned. I never trusted potentially explosive devices in my hand or in my fingers. That’s why I can still enjoy Independence Day 2018.
Amazingly, I survived all that dumb s**t I did with my limbs.
The neighborhood kids and I attempted to recreate the Evel Knievel jumps we’ve heard about. Or at least the theatrical motorcycle jumps we’ve seen on TV.
We built a wooden bicycle jump and then lined the sides with Roman candles with the landing area with smoke bombs. We were creative! As you can imagine the structural integrity of kid-built bicycle jump was not enough to withstand it’s first use especially with a fire danger strapped to it.
For Independence Day 2018, I think I’ll chillax until it’s bedtime. Seems like a better use of my time. Be good like you should, and if you can’t be good, be good at what you do!
