Memorial Day 2018 is fast approaching, y’all! So that means camping trips, boating trips, road trips, staying home do outdoor work on the house, barbeque parties, or nothing on this holiday weekend. But I want to remind you WHY you are able to enjoy this 3-day weekend: your fellow Americans. Get it straight – there’s a large difference between Veteran’s and Memorial.
Memorial Day celebrates those who died while serving the military. “All gave some, but some gave all”. Veteran’s Day celebrates those that are still living. I’m generally surprised I feel the compulsion to explain this every year.
Memorial Day 2018
This year I’ll be celebrating the long weekend with my girlfriend. Our plan is a road trip to the sleepy, central Washington town of Easton. The dance troop she participates in, West Coast Country Heat, will performing among others. Their uniforms this year are all-American: red, white and blue. Love’em. We’ll have time before and after so the event can’t and won’t consume all of our time.
While I’ve never served a minute in our country’s military, I’m proud of them and gladly support their work. They volunteered to the work that no one else stepped up to. I’ll take a moment to honor those that laid down their life so that I could live mine free from tyranny. Love those men and women who do this on the daily.
So I implore you that whatever it is you do for the upcoming weekend that you raise a glass for a toast, take a moment to pray for them, or pay some sort of tribute to those that died while serving this Memorial Day 2018. I feel that’s the least we could do for them. Even if you don’t agree with our military leaders decision, soldiers can’t disobey orders so don’t throw shade at them. Redirect that to the leaders, but praise the troops that must comply.
Regardless of what you do be safe out there. Oh, and always, be good like you should, and if you can’t be good, be good at what you do!
