Last week ‘los posted about Pokemon Go and GeoCaching and I was planning a PokeGo Rally.
Our family are avid (not obsessed) Pokemon fans. Even our four year old granddaughter.
Amore’ Events & Entertainment does a lot of family events at Redmond Town Center as paid vendors. I love going there to walk the Pokestops. It’s not as busy as the infamous ‘Bellevue Park’. (which has been getting a lot of negative press lately) There are real restrooms, food and drink places to visit while hunting down those little monsters!
We wanted to do something for the community that would not only bring Pokemon fans together in a fun way but to Rally support for needy kids heading back to school in a few weeks.
When I was growing up and when my kids were growing up (with me as a single mother) this time of year caused anxiety.
It’s time for ‘back to school’ shopping for clothes, shoes and supplies. On a tight budget it always seemed that school supplies were lowest priority. Of course, it didn’t seem like that big of a deal until they were needed and weren’t affordable. It was pretty embarrassing to have to borrow a pencil all the time.
These days, there are school supply lists at Staples and Office Depot, even Fred Meyer that seem daunting to me now!
Redmond Town Center and I talked about my idea. They were gracious enough to waive the event fees! I mentioned that I was looking for a non-profit to support with this and they suggested Friends of Youth. I visited their website and lo and behold on the front page is their school supply drive!
So, I gave them a shout out asking if we could help and our “PokeGo Rally for Youth” was born!
Several of the Redmond Town Center merchants are pitching in by donating prizes! (Spazzo, Uncle Games, Play Live Nation) Special discounts and sponsored charging stations (Simply Mac, AT&T). Heidi at Pink Power Printing helped put the finishing touches on our event shirt. She provided a great price so could have some to giveaway. We are doing a pokemon themed photo booth for players that will print on their team color.
We hope you will join us in supporting the Friends of Youth school supply drive. Visit their website to find a donation need list, donation drop-off sites, make a donation by purchasing on Amazon or come to the PokeGo Rally on Sunday August 21, 2016 from 11am – 7pm to drop your school donation in the bin.
