hard days night?
A few months ago I had a static schedule, in a corporate job, that was Monday through Friday.
And then I would add on top of that, gigs from Amore’ Events & Entertainment on the weekends. Basically, I was (still am really) working all the time. Those are hard days!
When co-workers, friends, and family, would tell me about the anticipation of the upcoming weekend, a smirk would appear on my face. I can only hope to know what “days off” are. I realize it’s self-inflicted, I’m not blind to this fact.
Nowadays I have a dynamic schedule because I work in retail yet still rock a gig for Amore’. So my hard days are more governed by what hours I work on each day, then making sure I have 40-hours.
I constantly hear amongst my co-workers that it’s “my Monday” or “my Friday” when the calendar day is, for example, Tuesday. It’s taken some adjustment time, but I’ve gotten a handle on it.
On the rare week I have two consecutive days off from retail, it’s so much more anticipated. Why, you ask? I’m trying to find that work-life balance, yet still trying to survive a “Hard Day’s Night” (a la The Beatles).
Pretty much everyone that has a non-static schedule can appreciate time off, but if you’re always on, then you must make that happen yourself.
People crack me up when I’m posted up at a gig, and they approach my DJ stand with the question of “what else do you do”? Well, there’s plenty of preparation for a gig which takes hours, sometimes days, and just because you’re a DJ doesn’t mean you’re not busy working.
However, I get it. The average person that has a static schedule doesn’t understand or really care that your schedule is never the same from week-to-week.
Time is precious, isn’t it? Tell me about it, below in the comments!
So until next time, be good like you should, and if you can’t be good – be good at what you do!
