Letters To Myself – Dear Future Me

The other day I was strolling through Target picking a gift bag, gift tissue, etc. I encountered a product called Letters To My Future Self by Lea Redmond. I thought instantly of the How I Met Your Mother episode that tackles the Dear Future Self letters that the characters wrote themselves.

I would have never thought of that had I not seen the episode! I know that seems silly but I didn’t learn that from a teacher or would dream of that on my own. I’ve thought about time capsules, but never a letter to my future self.

I really wish I had written Letters To Myself – Dear Future Me.

I was instantly inspired by the potential for this product, since it states right on the cover “Write Now. Read Later. Treasure Forever.” A paper time capsule. So I picked it up right away. I didn’t even pay attention on how much I paid for it, either. This self-experiment is gonna pay dividends!

However, I was a little stuck with which Letters To Myself – Dear Future Me write first, and how far out to post-date it. So many questions! You’d think for a writer this would be a slam-dunk of a writing project. Just put the pen to the pad, and see what you write. There’s no wrong answer, per se.

So I sat down to write Letters To Myself – Dear Future Me. I ended up decided to post date my 2nd letter to 2/6/2022, 5 years into the future. If I made it that far, I’ll be 45 therefore halfway to my 50’s. Sweet baby Jesus! Considering it was only my 2nd letter to myself it was only a page long.

The first one was actually inspired by my girlfriend’s suggestion after I purchased the perfect cabinet for my kitchen to house drink items such as beer pitcher, pints, etc. Her suggestion was to write up the story that led up to the actual purchase of the item and how it got into the #BastionofBayne – I sealed it up with the words, “only open until purchased or given away”.

I have 10 more notes to myself to write in which I think I’ll hold off writing so the content will be progressive yet not skewed by how I’m feeling now.

The next few Letters To Myself – Dear Future Me should be goals about my professional life, then personal, and finally, a funny one or silly that might actually be really out of context but at least it’s down on paper.

That makes me wonder though…
